I’ve found a…
Baby Bunny

DO NOT PICK IT UP!! First take a picture of the bunny and send it to us via WhatsApp. Add to the message your area and circumstances under which you have found the bunny. We’ll respond to your message asap to let you know what to do next.

NOT ALL BUNNIES FOUND ON THE GROUND HAVE BEEN ABANDONED OR NEED SAVING

If the bunny is injured or ice cold, then place it in a secure, but breathable box/basket/container in a scrunched-up towel or blanket and provide heat. Do Not attempt to give it any food or water, but rather CALL US to advise you further on what to do next or where to take him to.

Bat On The Ground

Take a picture of the bat before you pick it up.

DO NOT pick the bat up with your bare hands. Use a pair of gloves, a towel or a cloth and place the bat in the scrunched-up towel or blanket in a secure, but breathable box/basket/container with a lid on and provide heat. They are really good escape artists, so make sure the container is secure enough that it can’t escape. Send the picture to us on WhatsApp and mention your area and the circumstances under which it was found. We’ll advise you further on what to do or where to take it to.

Baby Bushbaby/Squirrel/Mammal

Take a picture of the animal before picking it up.

Pick it up gently and place it in a scrunched-up towel or blanket in a secure, but breathable box/basket/container with a lid on and provide heat. Don’t use a cage, as they can easily escape through the bars and it doesn’t retain any heat. Send the picture to us on WhatsApp and then either message or CALL US to determine the best plan of action for the baby.

Species Of Wild Cat

Take a picture of the cat and send it to us via WhatsApp.

DO NOT touch it if it is not in any eminent danger (like in the middle of the road and about to get run over, or in the way of a rushing veld fire). Then CALL US so that we can help you assess the situation and decide what to do next.

NOT ALL BABY WILDLIFE THAT ARE FOUND ON THEIR OWN, HAVE BEEN ABANDONED

And remember, the mommy-cat might be closer than you think – even watching your every move!

Hedgehog In My Garden Or Pool

Hedgehog in my Garden: Take a picture of the hedgehog and send it to us via WhatsApp so that we can identify the species to see if it is indigenous or not, as that will determine what to do next. If it is in danger, pick it up carefully with a pair of thick gloves, a towel or a blanket and place it in the scrunched-up towel/blanket in a secure, but breathable box/basket/container with a lid on. DO NOT put any food or water in for him as they usually just bump the water over causing them to get wet and cold. Then CALL US so that we can advise you on the best plan of action for the hedgehog.

Hedgehog in my Pool: Immediately fish the hedgehog out the pool with a net and handle it with a towel folded double or triple (to prevent any injuries from the sharp quills). If the hedgehog is not curled up, gently tilt it upside down for a minute or two (so the head is facing downwards), to allow for some of the fluids in the lungs or mouth to run out. DO NOT shake the hedgehog to make the water run out faster! Place it in a dry, but scrunched-up towel or blanket in a secure, but breathable box/basket/container with a lid on and provide heat. DO NOT put any food or water in for him and CALL US for advice on what to do next or where to take it to.
